100 Minors Found Inside Bar During Compliance Check: Hamden PD

Police say they received numerous complaints of underage drinking at the bar.

HAMDEN, CT — The Connecticut Liquor Commission is investigating “The Clubhouse on Whitney” after about 100 minors were found inside the bar during a recent liquor compliance check, according to police. Following up on numerous complaints of underage drinking at the establishment, members of the Hamden Police Department Street Interdiction Team and the state liquor commission conducted a compliance check at The Clubhouse on Whitney, located at 3816 Whitney Avenue, on April 20, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said arriving officers asked patrons for their IDs, resulting in “approximately 100 people” being under 21 years of age. Police seized 42 fraudulent IDs and several underage patrons advised officers that they were not asked for their identification from The Clubhouse on Whitney staff, according to Smith. Numerous infractions were issued and the State of Connecticut Liquor Commission is continuing the investigation, Smith said.

A liquor compliance check was also conducted at Liquor Mart, located at 3837 Whitney Avenue, and four people were issued infractions for possession of alcohol by a minor. Smith said they illegally purchased alcoholic beverages at Liquor Mart. The State of Connecticut Liquor Commission is also continuing that investigation, according to Smith.
