26 Pedestrians Struck By Vehicles In 2018: Hamden Police
Police are offering several safety tips due to a high number of accidents involving pedestrians being struck by vehicles in Hamden this year

HAMDEN, CT — In light of numerous accidents involving pedestrians being struck by motor vehicles this year, Hamden Police are providing several safety tips to residents. Since Jan. 1, police have conducted 26 investigations in which a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. There have been 10 reported accidents on Dixwell Avenue alone, Smith said.
The Hamden Police Department would like to provide the following safety tips:
- Cross the street within a marked crosswalk.
- If there are no marked crosswalks, cross at the corner.
- Use the sidewalk, when available.
- If there isn’t a sidewalk, use the shoulder of the roadway. Do NOT walk in the street.
- Avoid distractions. Do not cross the street while talking or texting on the cell phone. Pay attention.
- Avoid crossing the street between parked vehicles.
