37-Year-Old Shot, Killed Sunday: Hamden Police

Police released the identity of the victim Sunday night.

HAMDEN, CT — A 37-year-old Hamden resident was shot and killed on Sunday afternoon, police said.

At 12:10 p.m., police responded to the area of 100 North St. for a report of shots fired. Police found John Williams, 37, in a vehicle suffering from several gunshot wounds, police said.

Williams was treated on scene and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, police said.

"Within moments of the shooting, Hamden Police attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on Arch Street," police said. "The operator disregarded officer’s signals to stop, and attempted to flee the area. The vehicle then got into an accident in the area of Fitch Street and Arch Street. At this time, Hamden Detectives are investigating whether the vehicle was related to the shooting."

Detectives from the Hamden Police Department Major Crime Unit and Crime Scene Unit are actively working on this investigation, police said.
