4 Hamden Businesses Caught Selling Tobacco To Minors: Police

Authorities recently conducted an unannounced compliance check at several businesses.

HAMDEN, CT — Four Hamden businesses were caught selling tobacco products to a minor during a recent unannounced compliance check, according to police. The Hamden Police Department Street Interdiction Team assisted the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services with regards to “unannounced tobacco inspections,” according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said the purpose of the inspections was to “determine if local businesses are in compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of cigarettes and/or tobacco products to individuals under the legal age of 18.”

Officers conducted compliance checks at 15 businesses. Four establishments were in violation. They are:

Sammy’s Grocery and Deli – 863 Dixwell Avenue

Hamden Variety Store – 1555 Dixwell Avenue

Exxon – 2263 Whitney Avenue

Krauszer’s Food Store – 3300 Whitney Avenue

The sales clerk for each of the aforementioned businesses was issued an infraction for sale of tobacco to a minor, according to Smith.
