$85.8 Million School Spending Plan Approved by Hamden Ed Board

The budget still faces potential cuts by the mayor and Legislative Council.

HAMDEN, CT - The Board of Education Monday approved a budget of $85.8 million for 2016-17, an amount that is 3.24 percent above this year's expenditure.

The spending plan, which includes the restoration of one of two life skills classes, hems close to what Schools Superintendent Jody Goeler recommended, reports the New Haven Register. But the board's approved budget might not survive without further cuts by Mayor Curt Leng and the Legislative Council.

“I don’t think they’re going to give us 3.24 percent,” board member Chris Daur told the Register.

In addition to the elimination of one of the life skills classes, another of the cuts to the budget included the elimination of the preschool program at Church Hill School.
