9 Pedestrians Struck By Vehicles Since June In Hamden: Police

Hamden Police are urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe.

HAMDEN, CT — In light of numerous accidents involving pedestrians being struck by vehicles over the summer, Hamden Police are urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe. Since June, the department has conducted nine investigations in which a pedestrian has been struck by a vehicle, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said the investigations have revealed that during a majority of these accidents, the pedestrians have not utilized the crosswalk.

  • Cross the street within a marked crosswalk.
  • If there are no crosswalks, cross at the corner.
  • Use the sidewalk if available.
  • Use the shoulder of the roadway if there isn’t a sidewalk. Do not walk in the street.
  • Avoid distractions. Do not cross the street while texting or talking on the cell phone. Pay attention.
  • Avoid crossing the street between parked vehicles.
