HAMDEN, CT — A fugitive who was wanted on two arrest warrants out of Florida was taken into custody in Hamden, according to police.
Hamden police received information last month from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office indicating that fugitive Steven Medina, 29, had fled Florida and was believed to be residing in Hamden, according to Det. Hailey Zarzuela.
Zarzuela said Medina was wanted on two active full extradition warrants stemming from felony charges of burglary and third-degree grand theft.
Following an investigation, Zarzuela said Hamden Police Detectives confirmed Medina’s whereabouts within Hamden and obtained a search-and-seizure warrant for Medina.
“With assistance from the HPD Emergency Services Unit, Intelligence Unit, Patrol Division, Hostage Negotiators, and Crime Deterrent Unit, officers executed the warrant utilizing a surround-and-call-out tactic,” Zarzuela wrote in a news release. “Medina exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held pending extradition proceedings to the State of Florida.”
