Man Charged With Murder In Fatal Shooting In Hamden: Officials

HAMDEN, CT — A man wanted in connection with a murder in Hamden in 2021 was arrested Wednesday in New Jersey, according to officials.

Curtis Cole, 47, of Camden, New Jersey, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Cole was charged with murder, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, and criminal possession of a pistol or revolver.

The Hamden Police Department identified Cole as the suspect in the shooting death of Jonquay Morrison, 38, in Hamden.

The shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. on June 6, 2021, on Hamden Park Drive while police were investigating another shooting that happened earlier in a parking lot in the 900 block of Dixwell Avenue, police said at the time.

Arriving officers found Morrison suffering from gunshot wounds, and he later died from his injuries, officials said.

"After an extensive investigation, an arrest warrant was issued July 23 for Cole charging him with murder," officials wrote in a news release. "His apprehension was delegated to the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force in Connecticut, who developed information that Cole was in New Jersey and sent a collateral lead to the USMS NYNJRFTF."

Cole was located in Camden and arrested without incident, according to officials.

Officials said Cole was taken to the Camden County Sheriff's Office, where he was being held pending extradition to Connecticut with a court-set bond of $3 million.
