Hamden-Based Company Closes After More Than 100 Years In Business: Report

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden-based manufacturing company has closed after more than 100 years in business, according to NBC Connecticut.

NBC Connecticut reports Leed-Himmel Industries, a custom aluminum manufacturing company, has closed, with its longtime owner citing soaring business expenses and tariffs as key reasons for the decision.

Leed-Himmel Industries is located at 75 Leeder Hill Drive in Hamden. It employed between 51 and 200 workers, according to its LinkedIn profile.

"We have been in business since 1909, and specialize in custom applications in the architectural industry and industrial extrusion industry," the profile on LinkedIn reads. "We are a true single source supplier with multiple in-house capabilities. We have our own extrusion press, machining and fabrication departments, and in-house anodizing, powder coating and painting. Everything is manufactured to customer's specifications and produced under one roof, eliminating costly delays and potential damage. We have a long history of working on some very historic projects and with some of the finest architects and contractors around."

Owner Howard Goldfarb told NBC Connecticut that the "cost of doing business in Connecticut is too high" and said that "tariffs was the final nail in the coffin" for the company.
