BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 23-year-old Hamden man was injured after a drive-by shooting in Bridgeport on Friday night, according to police.
The victim suffered a wound to a lower extremity and was listed in stable condition at St. Vincent's Medical Center, according to Bridgeport police.
Shortly after 10 p.m., 911 callers reported hearing gunfire near Wood Avenue and Grove Street, where a ShotSpotter activation was also recorded. ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system.
Police said responding officers found four parked vehicles that had been struck by gunfire.
Minutes later, a person driving the wounded man to St. Vincent's encountered an ambulance and police vehicles several blocks away at Lexington Avenue and Grand Street and stopped. Medics evaluated the man and took him by ambulance to the hospital, according to police.
The victim said he had been attending a birthday party at a home on Grove Street, according to police. He told investigators he was standing outside with his back to the street when he was struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle.
The Bridgeport Police Department's Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force is investigating.
