Update: FBI Joins Murder/Explosion Investigation In Hamden
The body was discovered after police initially investigated the report of an explosion.
Update midnight
The following statement was released late Saturday by Hamden Mayor Curt Leng regarding the murder investigation on Wintergreen Avenue.
“The Hamden Police Department is working cooperatively with the FBI, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the Connecticut State Police on a homicide investigation on Wintergreen Avenue near Carbonella Drive. The investigation is on-going, as we continue to verify the identify of the body, as well as the manner and cause of death.

An explosion that was reported earlier today in the area that the body was located is part of the investigation. The New Haven Police Department Bomb Squad assisted in the investigation.
The Hamden Police and Fire Departments have been working diligently, and in close cooperation with local, state and federal agencies throughout the day.

Because this is an ongoing investigation, we have been unable to give as many updates as we might like throughout the day. That said, impressive public safety work was completed today, and the Connecticut State Police (the lead Police agency who have been assigned with leading the case) are planning a press conference for 10:30 to give an update.
We will put out additional information as soon as it is reasonable to do so. Thank you for understanding and be assured that if there was any consideration that Hamden residents were in any added danger due to this horrific incident, information would have been pushed out to the public by the Hamden Police Department and the Town throughout the day.”
Update 4 p.m.: Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body along with the report of an explosion in Hamden, the New Haven Register reports.
The investigation is taking place on Wintergreen Avenue, the paper reports. It is unclear whether the two incidents are related.
