Bomb Threat Investigated In Hamden: Police

Police are investigating a bomb threat at Congregation Mishkan Israel Synagogue in Hamden, according to officials.

HAMDEN, CT — Police are investigating a bomb threat at Congregation Mishkan Israel Synagogue in Hamden on Thursday, according to officials.

Police responded to Congregation Mishkan Israel at 785 Ridge Road around 9:50 a.m. on the report of a bomb threat, according to Sgt. Angela Vey.

Vey said the threat was received via email, and the building was evacuated.

“The New Haven Police Department Hazardous Device Team, along with Detectives from the Hamden Police Department, responded to the scene,” Vey wrote in a news release. “The Hazardous Device Team searched the building and did not find any evidence of explosives inside the facility.”

“The Hamden Police Department will have increased patrols in the area, and there is no danger at this time. Over the past few months, several Jewish facilities nationwide have received similar threats originating from the same email address. The FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force was contacted and will be investigating the origin of the email.”

Mayor Lauren Garrett said that activities at Congregation Mishkan Israel, along with their preschool, were canceled on Thursday, as police investigated the threat.

“Any threat to the safety of our community is unacceptable and is taken seriously,” Garrett said earlier on Thursday.

“I want to thank the Hamden Police Department for their swift response to ensure the safety of our community,” Garrett said. Our Police Department is actively investigating this incident.”
