Bridge Remains Closed In Hamden

The bridge is closed for evaluation and repairs, officials say.

HAMDEN, CT — The Skiff Street Bridge over the Mill River remains closed to through traffic until further notice, officials said in an update on Tuesday. Local businesses on Skiff Street remain open and accessible. A detour has been posted and traffic is being detoured to Dixwell Avenue to the north and Putnam Avenue to the south.

“Engineers are currently evaluating the existing bridge and recommendations for how to address any structural concerns,” according to a press release. “This closure was based on the recommendation of the bridge project engineers and oversight consultants, due to potential structural deficiencies that could make the bridge unstable. Very preliminarily, the closure to make repairs may take approximately four weeks.

“Construction of the new bridge continues during this process and remains on schedule. Residents may use the sidewalk on the south side of the bridge. The local businesses and schools can be accessed from Whitney and Dixwell Avenues, although traffic is not permitted over the bridge itself.”
