Burglary Suspect Jumps Out Window, Eludes Teen's Mother: Hamden Police

Police say the ex-boyfriend, 23, of a teenage resident forcibly entered the home while the residents were there and was later arrested.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man is accused of breaking into a Hamden home on Monday morning.

Hamden Police responded to a Williamson Road residence at about 10:30 a.m. on May 30 on the report of a burglary.

Capt. Ronald Smith said investigation revealed that the teenage resident’s ex-boyfriend, Matthew Williams, forcibly entered the home while the residents were at home.

The teenager’s mother attempted to grab hold of Williams, who subsequently jumped out of a window, according to Smith.

Shortly thereafter, Officer Dennis Putnam located Williams at his home in New Haven. He was promptly arrested and transported to Hamden Police Headquarters.

Hamden Police arrested Williams, 23, of 215 Townsend Avenue in New Haven. He was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

Williams, who was released after posting a $15,000 bond, was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on May 31.
