Farmington Canal Trail users and the Quinnipiac and Hamden communities can anticipate a new favorite spot for breakfast and lunch: B & D Deli Works, located on the corner of Whitney Ave. and Todd Street, the former Giant View Café location.
Former public school teacher Amy Brejwo has seized the opportunity to open the deli and sandwich shop and said she looks forward to becoming a part of the Hamden business community.
“Many people know the spot as soon as I describe it, so I hope to please existing customers and draw in new clientele with an expanded menu, fast service, and a fresh look,” Brejwo said.

While the menu offers traditional breakfast and lunch items such as bacon and eggs, French toast, and an array of deli style sandwiches, wraps, and paninis, and salads, new offerings will also include Hummel’s hotdogs, homemade soups, and daily specials such as barbeque pork, sausage and peppers, eggplant parmesan and other “hot lunch” choices.
Although Brejwo has spent the past several years planning classroom lessons for middle schoolers rather than planning the daily menu, she is not a rookie in the business. The former owner of The Hole in the Wall Deli in Branford, Brejwo sold her business seven years ago in order to start a family.

Now the proud mother of two boys, Brejwo has named her new business B & D Deli Works after her sons, Benjamin, 5, and Daniel, 3.
“Teaching is what I went to school for, and having the vacations were a bonus, but every time someone asked me if I missed the deli, the answer was always ‘yes’” Brejwo said.
“The boys aren’t quite old enough to work yet,” she jokes, “but I hope this will become a family thing. I want them to see that hard work can pay off, and as cliché as it may sound, that following your dreams is important.”
B & D is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., and 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. on weekends. The full menu can be viewed by visiting bddeliworks.com. Q-card is accepted.
