Cat Rescued After Getting Tail Stuck In Recliner Chair: Hamden PD

Animal control officers worked frantically for nearly two hours to save the cat, police said.

HAMDEN, CT — A cat is recovering after animal control officers worked frantically for nearly two hours to save her after she got stuck in an electrical recliner, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. The Hamden Animal Control Division responded to a Vantage Road home on Feb. 6 on the report of “feline stuck in a recliner,” according to Smith.

AACO Mitch Gibbs found a “Persian” feline in distress at the home. The cat’s tail was caught in an electrical recliner and a portion of the tail was “stuck” between a motor and a cross bar, according to Smith. Another part of the tail was entangled around a threaded rod.

“AACO Gibbs removed the motor from the cross bar, which freed a portion of the tail,” Smith wrote in a press release. “AACO Steven Gimler and North Haven ACO Dave Carney were summoned and assisted in the removal of the entire rod from the chair’s frame. Upon successfully removing the rod, the feline was rushed to Central Veterinary Hospital. Animal Control Officers worked frantically for nearly 2 hours to save the feline.
