Catholic School In Hamden To Close
The school will merge with another nearby Catholic school, the Archdiocese of Hartford announced this week.

HAMDEN, CT — St. Stephen School in Hamden will close as it merges with nearby St. Rita School in the 2017-18 academic year, the Archdiocese of Hartford announced this week, according to multiple reports.
The Hartford Courant reports the decision is a result of the archdiocese's pastoral planning process that could leave more than 100 parishes closed or merged by the end of the year. No decisions have been made regarding the parishes in Hamden, according to the Courant.
As far as the schools go, the plan is for St. Stephen School to close in June with its 150 students going to St. Rita, where there are currently 317 students enrolled, and the combined school will serve students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, according to the Connecticut Post.
