Citizens Police Academy Announced In Hamden

The Hamden Police Department announces the next session of its popular Citizen's Police Academy.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden police are accepting applications for the next session of the department’s “Citizen’s Police Academy,” which begins Feb. 8.

“The purpose of this exciting and intense program is to provide local residents, business/property owners and college students with pertinent information, as it relates to the function and activities of the Hamden Police Department,” police wrote in a news release. “The goal of this program is to increase public awareness and build community rapport through education and conversation.

“The Hamden Citizen’s Police Academy will cover a vast array of topics, most likely including: patrol procedures, major crime investigations, crime scene techniques, crime prevention, ethics and integrity, use of force, cultural awareness, computer crimes and a police K-9 demonstration.”

Applications must be submitted to the Hamden Police Department, 2900 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, Connecticut 06518 no later than 4 p.m. on February 1, 2023. Applications can be found here, or at various town buildings including, police headquarters, town hall and local libraries.

Classes will take place on Wednesdays, the first class on February 8, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hamden Police Department, Training Division, and run through early May 2023.
