Venomous Snake Found In Garbage Bin In Hamden: Police

A resident recently found the snake in his garbage bin, police said.

HAMDEN, CT — A copperhead snake was found in a garbage bin in Hamden after a resident tried to dispose of some trash that he found at West Rock Park, according to police. Last week, Assistant Animal Control Officer Mitch Gibbs responded to a Lane Street residence on the report of a “Copperhead Snake” in a garbage bin, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

The resident told police that he frequents West Rock Park and noticed a garbage bag in the vicinity of the park. To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.

“He decided to place the garbage bag inside of his vehicle and dispose of it at home,” Smith wrote in a press release. “A day later, he observed the copperhead, a venomous snake, inside of his garbage bin. After contacting the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, AACO Gibbs returned the snake to West Rock Park.”
