HAMDEN, CT — (From Sacred Heart Academy): On Monday, March 16, Sacred Heart Academy’s 416 students transitioned to distance learning. Without missing a beat, they began video conferencing and chatting with their teachers and classmates, and even “hanging out” with their lunch table friends.

Since the school closed in response to the new coronavirus, Sacred Heart’s distance learning program has been in full effect. Students and faculty are video conferencing in chat rooms through Microsoft Teams. Students are turning in assignments and watching instructional videos through the learning management system, OnCampus. Everyone is communicating through email. Additional web tools facilitate class discussions and other interactions.

This ongoing teaching and learning during a challenging time are made possible because of the Academy’s commitment to investing in technology. With a one-to-one laptop program, a robust IT infrastructure, and a dedicated and talented faculty, remote learning is thriving.
