Driver Charged In Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Hamden: Police

HAMDEN, CT — A driver has been charged in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash that killed a 36-year-old man last August in Hamden, according to police.

Police responded to the area of 995 Dixwell Avenue around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 on the report of a crash involving a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, identified as David Welch, was crossing Dixwell Avenue near George Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Dixwell Avenue, police said at the time. Welch was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

Officer Christina Kelley conducted an extensive investigation that led to an arrest warrant for the driver, Jovon Ladson, according to Sgt. Angela Vey.

Vey said Ladson turned himself in to the Hamden Police Department on Tuesday.

Ladson, 30, of Hamden, was arrested on charges of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, speeding and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Ladson was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
