Driver Killed In Fiery Crash On Route 15 In Hamden

Police are seeking witnesses to the crash.

HAMDEN, CT — A Waterbury woman was killed in a fiery crash on Route 15 in Hamden on Wednesday, according to Connecticut State Police.

Police said Lisa Vecchitto, 57, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus on Route 15 South around 2:20 p.m. Vecchitto lost control of the vehicle near Exit 60, veered right off the road into a wooded area and struck a tree, according to police.

The vehicle caught on fire and Vecchitto was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police noted that at the time of the crash, the weather was clear, the road was dry and traffic was moderate and moving at a steady flow when Vecchitto lost control of the vehicle for “unknown reasons.”

The crash remains under investigation and police are asking any witnesses to contact Trooper Gina Bavolacco at 203-393-4200 or gina.bavolacco@ct.gov. Police are also asking anyone who was driving through the area at the time of the crash and may have recorded dashboard camera footage to contact Bavolacco.
