Missing Primary Petitions Prompt Investigation By Hamden Police, State Officials
An election matter involving petition sheets is being investigated by Hamden police and state election officials, Mayor Adam Sendroff said.
HAMDEN, CT — An election matter involving petition sheets in Hamden is being investigated by Hamden police and state election officials, according to Mayor Adam Sendroff.
Sendroff was notified on Sunday morning by a deputy registrar of voters that petition sheets submitted by at least one candidate seeking ballot access could not be located, according to a news release from the mayor’s office.
After receiving the information, Sendroff contacted the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s Office, the State Elections Enforcement Commission, and the Hamden Police Department.

Hamden police have launched an investigation, and the “matter is being reviewed by the appropriate authorities,” according to the news release.
“The Town of Hamden will continue to fully cooperate with all agencies involved,” the news release states. “We take election security and the integrity of our electoral process seriously and will provide any assistance necessary to support a thorough investigation.”

No other details were immediately provided by the mayor’s office.
In a statement, Hamden Democratic Town Committee Chair Sean Grace said he was “deeply disturbed by the discovery that primary petitions are missing and are presumed to have been removed” from the Registrar of Voters office.
“This incident is unacceptable and directly harms the integrity of our election processes, undermining the trust that voters place in our local institutions,” Grace wrote in the statement. “On the morning of June 14, 2026, Mayor Adam Sendroff was notified by a Deputy Registrar of Voters that petition sheets for at least one candidate could not be located. In response, the Mayor immediately contacted the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s Office, the State Elections Enforcement Commission, and the Hamden Police Department.
“The Hamden Police Department has since opened an investigation into this matter. I have full confidence in Mayor Sendroff and Chief of Police Edward Page Reynolds to conduct a thorough and impartial inquiry. The Hamden DTC remains committed to protecting the integrity of our elections and ensuring that the voice of every voter is heard. We will continue to monitor this situation closely.”
