‘Emotionally Disturbed’ Man With Sword Taken Into Custody: Hamden Police

Police said the man was hospitalized after being taken into custody.

HAMDEN, CT — An “emotionally disturbed” man who was in possession of a sword was taken into custody and hospitalized Monday morning in Hamden, according to police.

Police responded around 6:50 a.m. on Jan. 19 to Circular Avenue on the report of an “emotionally disturbed” man, according to Lt. Robert Manfield.

Manfield said officers were advised that a man inside the residence was behaving erratically, possibly under the influence of drugs and in possession of a sword.

Responding officers established a perimeter and tried to contact with the man, according to Manfield.

Manfield said the man exited the residence “safely and was taken into custody without incident.”

He was evaluated by emergency medical personnel and taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for further treatment, according to Manfield.

No injuries were reported, and there was no threat to the public, according to Manfield.

“This incident remains a medical matter,” Manfield wrote in a news release.
