Employee Stole $22K From Pharmacy: Hamden Police

Police say the accused removed nearly 300 items from the shelf and "scanned it as a return" onto his personal debit card.

HAMDEN, CT — A 19-year-old West Haven resident is accused of stealing more than $22,000 in a fraudulent scheme while working at a pharmacy in Hamden, according to police. Hamden Police responded to Apex Pharmacy, located at 2380 Dixwell Avenue, on Jan. 29 on the report of fraud and larceny, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that between July of 2017 and January of 2018, store employee Jamal Heath, stole $22,742.95. Heath removed 293 items from the shelf and then “scanned it as a return” onto his personal debit card, according to Smith.

Detective John Marks conducted an extensive investigation, which led to an arrest warrant for Heath, who turned himself in at police headquarters on March 27.

Heath, 19, of Eaton Street in West Haven, was charged with first-degree larceny. He was released on a written promise to appear in Meriden Superior Court on April 11.
