Energize Connecticut to Host Annual Family Science Day and ENERGY STAR® Change the World Tour Kickoff

Free daylong event will feature family-friendly science and environmental activities

On Saturday, October 1, the Energize Connecticut partners – Eversource and AVANGRID, Inc. subsidiaries United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas – will host its annual Family Science Day at the Energize Connecticut Center, located at 122 Universal Drive North in North Haven. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is free of charge and open to the public.

The family-friendly event will also serve as the official kickoff for Connecticut’s ENERGY STAR® Change the World Tour, a month-long, national initiative that combines energy efficiency with community service.

The day’s activities will begin with Effy the Energy-Efficient Dinosaur leading an LED torch lighting ceremony signifying the start of the Change the World Tour in Connecticut.

Other fun-filled activities and entertainment scheduled throughout the day, include:

· 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. – Sciencetellers will conduct elaborate science experiments and tell accompanying stories

· 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Danny Magic comedy and magic show

· Noon – 3 p.m. – Billy the Clown will provide balloon animal and clown shows

· 12:30 – 3 p.m. – Animal Embassy will be on-hand with rescue animals for children and their families to learn more about

· 1 – 3 p.m. – Mad Science will perform a number of science activities, including “Energy Blast” and “Fantastic Forces.”

Additionally, the first 200 guests will each receive a new ENERGY STAR® LED bulb, and Techni Art will be on-hand selling discounted LED bulbs.
