Composting Workshop

Urbanminers will offer a free workshop presented by Master Composter and owner of Duck Truck Composting, Alexis Wilcox and Dana Rozanski, Certified Master Composter.  Participants will learn the necessary steps to set up and maintain their own backyard composting bin.  The workshop will be in the lecture room at Urbanminers at 30 Manila Avenue in Hamden.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the average U.S. citizen will generate 474 pounds of food waste over the course of one year. Maintaining a home compost bin can help reduce waste and transform food scraps, yard trimmings and leaves into a soil-enhancing mixture. The use of compost significantly reduces use of chemical and harmful fertilizers in the garden.

Alexis  Wilcox and Dana Rozanski will teach attendees what to compost and what not to compost, and why. They will explain how to create compost bins easily and efficiently from recycled materials. Low-cost compost bins and kits will also be available for purchase.
