David Jacobs-Strain

The Outer Space presents David Jacobs-Strain:

David Jacobs-Strain is a virtuosic slide guitar player and a storyteller with a passionate one man show that is both humorous and deeply lyrical. A bridge between today’s indie folk troubadours and the delta guitar slingers ...of the 1930′s, David plays with precision and sings with emotional abandon. He’s a six-foot-two Jewish blues singer from Oregon, a Stanford drop-out in a trucker hat, and a Left Coast poet; one part Leo Kotke, one part Ken Kesey, and one part Robert Johnson. Is it Delta Blues? Gangsta Grass? Geekabilly? Secular Humanist Gospel? It’s a sound big enough to land David at the Newport Folk Festival —as a teenager— and later at MerleFest, the Strawberry Music Festival, the Montreal International Jazz Fest, and on tour with artists as diverse as Lucinda Williams, Etta James, Bob Weir, and Boz Scaggs (for three summer tours).

Opening the show at 7 p.m. will be Sammy Blanchette:

Sam Blanchette, born and raised in Connecticut, has been performing since he was 13 years old. Starting out in bars at a young age playing classic rock and blues, Blanchette has formed a style of playing that reflects a mixture of all kinds of genres of music including jazz, blues, reggae, and funk.  Some of his biggest music influences include The Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Wes Montgomery, and Frank Sinatra.  Along with taking private lessons, Blanchette received a Bachelor's in Music Performance from Western Connecticut State University in 2011. While under study, he performed in various jazz combos, a guitar ensemble, and had the privilege to share the stage with John Scofield and Robert Glasper. Blanchette currently performs locally as a solo acoustic guitarist, as the lead guitarist in the reggae band 'Fattie Roots' and is the current bass player in the jam band 'Hubinger St'. He has also performed with other local acts including 'The Breakfast' and members of 'Kung Fu'. Blanchette is willing to perform anything and is up for the challenge no matter what it is.
