Documentary: “Running on Empty: The Brain Drain in Local TV News" to Air at QU

A screening of the new documentary, “Running on Empty: The Brain Drain in Local TV News,” which was produced by Quinnipiac University journalism professors Karin and Bill Schwanbeck of Cheshire.

“We were prompted to do this documentary when we realized crime and grime stories were standard on local TV newscasts and we saw very little in-depth or investigative journalism,” Karin Schwanbeck said. “Now we know one of the reasons why there is so much shallow reporting – the older reporters have been fired to save money or are leaving the business because they are frustrated.”

A question-and-answer session with the Schwanbecks will follow the hour-long documentary.
