Quinnipiac Screens Documentary on Motherhood in Prison

A screening of “Mothers of Bedford,” a documentary exploring the effects of a long-term prison sentence on the mother-child relationship, will take place in the Grand Courtroom of the Quinnipiac University School of Law Center.

This event is free and open to the public.

A panel discussion featuring Guilford resident Jenifer McShane, the filmmaker who produced the documentary, and two of the women from the film will follow the screening. "I am delighted to bring my film to Quinnipiac University. College campuses are filled with society's future policy makers. Who better to see and hear the stories told in “Mothers of Bedford?” said McShane, who lives in Guilford with her husband and two sons.

McShane spent four years visiting Bedford Hills, New York’s only women’s maximum security prison, located in Westchester County, N.Y. Bedford Hills allows women to raise their children in prison up to a certain age and allows mothers to remain in contact with their children throughout their incarceration through programs held at the facility. McShane followed five women and their families.
