“The pandemic continues to take a toll on employees, especially women,” according to the 2021 Women in the Workplace report. Women are even more burned out than they were a year ago, and burnout is escalating much faster among women than men.”

The report states that one in three women say they have considered downshifting their careers or leaving the workforce this year, compared to one in four who said this a few months into the pandemic. Additionally, four in 10 women have considered leaving their company or switching jobs—and high employee turnover in recent months suggests that many of them are following through.”

Garrett and Olian will discuss how the pandemic has affected their leadership styles and what they’re doing to identify and build a diverse workforce and inspire employees during these challenging times.

“Building strong relationships with our community leaders is an important component of our center’s mission,” said Julia Fullick-Jagiela, associate professor and chair of management and co-director of the People’s United Center for Women & Business at QU, which is sponsoring the program. “With Mayor Garrett just starting her term as mayor of Hamden, we thought it was important to hear her perspective on the challenges she’s facing during these unprecedented times.”

The People’s United Center for Women & Business at Quinnipiac University is dedicated to bringing together a community of women and their allies who are focused on achieving their professional goals and sharing their wisdom and experiences with each other through skill-building workshops, motivational events and networking opportunities.
