First Responders Save Driver’s Life After Three-Car Crash: Hamden Police
Police officers immediately performed CPR after finding the driver, who struck 2 other cars from behind, unconscious without vital signs.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden emergency responders are credited with saving the life of a 58-year-old Bethany resident who was suffering a medical emergency after a three-car crash on Tuesday, according to police.
At about 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 10, Hamden Police responded to the intersection of Shepard Avenue and Sherman Avenue on the report of a three-vehicle accident, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Moments later, Officer David Falcigno arrived and found the operator of a vehicle that had struck two vehicles from behind, unconscious, without vital signs.

Smith said Falcigno and Officer Peter Conti immediately performed CPR and protected the operator’s airway. Hamden Fire Rescue arrived and continued lifesaving efforts.
Smith said the patient, a 58-year-old Bethany resident, was revived and achieved full consciousness prior to arriving at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The operators of the other two vehicles were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with minor injuries, according to Smith.
The Hamden Police Department Traffic Division is investigating the accident.
