Former Hamden Mayor Peter Villano Dies At 100
Hamden's flags will fly at half mast in honor of Villano, who served 2 terms as mayor and 20 years as a state representative for the town.

HAMDEN, CT — Former Hamden Mayor Peter F. Villano died Sunday, Feb. 4 at the age of 100.
Villano was elected to two terms as Hamden’s mayor from 1981 to 1985. He also served as the State Representative for Hamden’s 91st District for 20 years.
Villano retired from public service in 2012 at the age of 89.

Hamden named the park at 260 Mill Rock Rd., Villano Park and Splash Pad, in his honor in 2013.
“He had a long and distinguished career as a public servant including serving as State Representative for 20 years and he was a WWII Navy veteran,” Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett said in a post on Facebook. “I have ordered our flags to be flown at half mast. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Peter Villano’s family and friends.”

At his home February 4, 2024 Peter F. Villano 100, of North Haven. Beloved husband of Florence Roome Villano. Loving father of Victoria Villano of North Haven, Peter Villano, Jr. of East Haven, David Villano of Miami, FL, Step-father of Lisa Reisner of Merrick, Long Island.
Cherished grandfather of Wesley and Ellie Villano. He was predeceased by a daughter Catherine Villano, a sister Annette Villano and brothers Vincent, Louis, Angelo, Joseph, Pasquale and Salvatore Villano.
Peter was born in New Haven January 26, 1924 son of the late Pietro and Caterina Casapulla Villano. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, writing and publishing "War to Peace," a memoir of his wartime experience.
Mr. Villano was a public servant for over 60 years holding positions in every level of government. He was elected Mayor of Hamden for 2 terms, served as a congressional aide to Congressman Robert N. Giaimo and retired from public service at the age of 89 after serving for 20 years as State Representative for the people of Hamden’s 91st District.
His funeral will leave Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden Saturday at 11 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 in St. Rita Church. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
