Free Bird: Hamden Firefighters Rescue Robin Tangled in Tree
The robin had been tangled in a balloon string for more than a day.

Hamden firefighters had to get creative in a different kind of rescue operation late Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were able to rescue a robin that was tangled in a balloon string and was hanging upside down in a tree on Gorham Avenue.
WFSB 3 reports that a resident went to the fire station on Circular Avenue to alert firefighters that the robin had been stuck in the tree for more than a day.

After quickly realizing that the tree branches wouldn’t support a ladder, or the weight of the firefighter, the firefighters came up with a unique solution.
They put together a rescue device that utilized long pike poles that are usually used to pull down ceilings in a fire and taped them to pruning shears and were able to free the robin from the string, according to FoxCT.
