Friends of Karen, a children’s charity that provides vital, practical and comprehensive support, at no cost, to families caring for a child with cancer or another life-threatening illness, is expanding its outreach in Connecticut.
“We work closely with Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital, and the number of Connecticut families we’re helping has quadrupled in the last three years,” says Judith Factor, Friends of Karen’s Executive Director. “We want to be a resource for every family that needs us.”
Friends of Karen is forming an outreach committee to better serve Connecticut families. New Canaan residents Trish and Eric Lobenfeld hosted a meeting to kickstart the initiative. Trish Lobenfeld is on the charity’s Board of Directors.

“The emotional disruption of having a catastrophically ill child is more than anyone should ever have to deal with alone,” Trish Lobenfeld says. “Friends of Karen is there to help with basic day-to-day necessities that all too often can’t be met due to financial and time management constraints.”
The charity serves families in Fairfield, Middlesex and New Haven counties as well as northern New Jersey, New York City and surrounding counties.
