Good Samaritans Help Rescue Injured Swan In Hamden
An injured swan was rescued by the Hamden Animal Control with the help of two good Samaritans after getting tangled in thick brush.
HAMDEN, CT — Thanks to the help of two good Samaritans, the Hamden Animal Control rescued an injured swan that got tangled in thick brush multiple times. The animal control responded to the area of 365 Mather St. on April 3 on the report of an injured swan, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Animal Control Officer Christopher Smith found a good Samaritan, Carissa Galrano, attempting to free a large swan that was tangled in thick brush. With Smith’s assistance, they successfully removed the swan from the brush.
“For the next few minutes, the swan attempted to take flight, but failed,” Capt. Ronald Smith wrote in a news release. “Another Good Samaritan arrived, removed a jack from inside of his vehicle, and raised a gate, thus allowing the swan to enter Regional Water Authority property.”

Smith said the swan continued toward Lake Whitney and was again entangled in thick brush when it entered the water. Christopher Smith and Galrano “trudged through” the thick brush and again freed the swan, according to Smith.
“We are happy to report that the swan was last observed swimming southbound on Lake Whitney,” Capt. Smith said. “The Hamden Police Department and Hamden Animal Control Division are very grateful to Ms. Galrano and the unidentified Good Samaritan.”
