Gun Buy Back Program To Take Place In Hamden
The event will provide an opportunity for people to dispose of working firearms in exchange for cash, according to police. Read details here
HAMDEN, CT — The Hamden Police Department will host a “Gun Buy Back” program on Saturday, Sept. 17 at police headquarters. The event will take place on the top level of the HPD parking garage, 2900 Dixwell Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“The purpose of this program is to provide residents and non-residents with a safe way to dispose of their unwanted firearms,” police wrote in a news release. “The event is anonymous with no ID required. This venue will provide an opportunity for people to dispose of working firearms in an exchange for cash.”

The benefits of this program include:
- Preventing unwanted firearms from being stolen and used in the commission of a crime.
- To prevent an accidental discharge of a firearm that can cause serious injury and/or death.
- To eliminate the use of a firearm for those individuals who are in despair and wish to harm themselves.
Free gunlocks and safe gun storage information will be provided. There will also be a blacksmith demonstration by Swords to Plowshares Northeast in which the turned in guns are converted into garden tools.
