Hamden Announces Closures, Parking Ban Due To Winter Storm: Here's What To Know

Town officials are advising residents of closures due to the major winter storm in the forecast.

HAMDEN, CT — Gov. Ned Lamont has announced that Connecticut will experience a major winter storm with blizzard conditions Sunday, Feb. 22 and Monday, Feb. 23.

Town officials are advising residents of the following changes due to the anticipated inclement weather:

Town Buildings Closure

All non-essential Town offices and buildings, including Government Center, Keefe Community Center, the Senior Center, and all Hamden Public Library buildings will be closed to the public on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026 due to the expected blizzard conditions, and will reopen Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 at their regularly scheduled hours. The library’s digital branch is available 24/7.

Our Police Department, Fire Department, and Public Works & Parks Department are working closely together to ensure public safety throughout the duration of the storm.

Meeting Changes

The Legislative Council’s meeting on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026 has been canceled.

Hamden Public Schools Closure

Due to the inclement weather, Hamden Public Schools and offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 23, 2026.

Parking Ban

Town officials have issued a parking ban for the Town of Hamden, effective Sunday, Feb. 22 at 12 noon until further notice. This ban is being declared pursuant to Section 71.03 of the Code of the Town of Hamden.

The parking ban prohibits any person to park, or allow to remain parked, any vehicle on any odd numbered portion of a town street or highway. The ban further prohibits any person to allow or permit a vehicle to stand or park on any town street or highway in such a manner as to constitute a hazard or obstruction to vehicular or pedestrian traffic.

The Hamden Police Department is authorized, pursuant to Section 71.08 of the Code of the Town of Hamden, to remove any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance. Such removal shall be at the risk and expense of the owner of the vehicle.

Warming Center at Breakthrough Church

Effective immediately, the overnight winter warming center at Breakthrough Church will be open 24 hours a day through 12 noon Tuesday, Feb. 24 in accordance with the Governor’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol. Following this period, the warming center will return to its regular hours of 7 p.m. - 7 a.m., seven nights a week through March 29. Click here for more information.

Trash and Recycling Pick-Up Delay

All American Waste will not have regular pick-up on Monday, Feb. 23. At this time, the pick-up normally scheduled for Monday will occur on Tuesday and so forth, culminating in Friday's pick-up taking place on Saturday.

Transfer Station

The Hamden Transfer Station will be closed Monday, Feb. 23 until further notice for associated clean-up operations.

Brooksvale Park

The Skating Pond at Brooksvale Park is closed until further notice.

State of Connecticut Closures

Governor Lamont announced that he is ordering all State of Connecticut executive branch office buildings closed to the public on Monday, February 23rd, 2026 due to the major winter storm.

Town officials are closely monitoring the anticipated inclement weather. Additional announcements will be released as storm conditions and preparations evolve.

Please stay off of the roads, if possible, to allow for cleanup and emergency vehicles. Always call 911 in an emergency.
