Hamden Business Wins State Award for Saving Energy

Superior Ink Printing Co., Inc. of Hamden, CT won a Summer Savers Silver Award from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for reducing their total energy usage by 10-20% in the summer months (May – September).

Seeking a way to reduce energy costs, Superior Ink Printing Co. received a free energy audit and energy upgrade recommendations from their local utility, The United Illuminating Company. They then elected to participate in Energize Connecticut programs, through which monetary incentives and rebates are made available from The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund.

Superior Ink Printing Co. received a $15,300 incentive payment for completing the project, which included replacing old lights in the building with energy efficient T5 and T8 fluorescent lighting. The new efficient lights allowed Superior Ink Printing Co. to eliminate 20 light fixtures altogether and resulted in a 20 percent decrease in energy consumption and 11 percent decrease in energy demand.

Energize Connecticut programs help you save money and use clean, affordable energy. The programs are a partnership of the Energy Efficiency Fund, the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority, and your local electric and gas utilities and are funded by a charge on customer energy bills. Information on energy efficiency programs can be found at EnergizeCT.com or by calling 1.877.WISE.USE.
