Hamden Coronavirus Update: Confirmed Cases Double In 1 Day

The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Hamden increased to 31 as of Monday night.

HAMDEN, CT — The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Hamden doubled in one day. Mayor Curt Balzano Leng reported there were 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday, March 29 and that number jumped to 31 cases by Monday night.

Coronavirus cases in Connecticut on Monday increased by 578 to 2,571 and the number of deaths rose from 34 to 36, according to Gov. Ned Lamont. The number of people hospitalized also rose from 404 to 517 Monday.

Hamden had 28 confirmed cases as of Lamont’s report on Monday afternoon, but that number increased to 31 by Monday night, according to Leng. Hamden had its first confirmed COVID-19 case on March 22. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

“I beg you to stay home, stay safe and minimize all interaction with people,” Leng wrote in a post on Facebook late Monday night. “You’ll save lives!”

Leng has been imploring residents to "get serious" about making positive healthy steps regarding the pandemic. He recently ordered the basketball and tennis nets taken down after seeing too many people and close-contact sports taking place on the town's courts.

Leng issued another emergency order Sunday that expands on the directive for residents to avoid congregating in open space areas and maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet in all areas.
