Hamden Coronavirus Updates: Nearly 450 Cases, 16 Deaths

Mayor Curt Balzano Leng said there will be a spike in positive coronavirus cases in Hamden and around the state in the coming days.

HAMDEN, CT — Nearly 450 Hamden residents have tested positive for the new coronavirus, including 16 deaths, Mayor Curt Balzano Leng said in an update Monday. There were 448 confirmed cases as of Monday afternoon and “16 of our people have lost their life to this horrific pandemic,” Leng said. He also said that there will be a spike in positive cases in Hamden and around the state in the coming days.

Leng said the spike will be due to residents still becoming infected during the “community surge/expansion” for the next week to 10 days and “because so many additional people are being tested now without the restrictions and doctor approval previously required.”

“We need to double down on all of our efforts, our personal responsibilities and our community efforts,” Leng wrote in a post on Facebook. “We must have the resolve together to protect each other. We can do this by preventing and reducing additional exposure to the virus, by slowing the spread, directly helping our families, friends and first responders and by flattening the curve. Flattening the curve allows our medical professionals the ability to continue their heroic work saving lives. It makes beds available to the very sick and this availability saves lives.
