Hamden Democratic Primary: Rachel Scolnic Dobin Seeks Nomination

HAMDEN, CT — Registered Democrats in Hamden will head to the polls on Tuesday, Sept. 14, for a primary election that features a three-way race for mayor with positions on the Legislative Council and Board of Education up for grabs.

Patch asked the candidates to answer questions about their campaigns ahead of the primary.

Rachel Scolnic Dobin, 40, is challenging for a spot on the Legislative Council as an At-Large candidate.

Occupation: Social Worker

Family: Children: Alexander 14, Avi 12 and Leah 7.

Experience: Disability Commission

Family in government: No

The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:

Safety. I believe that we need to work with our Police force to develop programs that utilize existing community resources and educate citizens and professionals on the key issues.

Critical differences between me and my opponents:

I am a Social Worker who connects people to programs and programs to people.

Accomplishments:

I have been a Social Worker for over fifteen years and I have had the opportunity to work with the most impoverished members of our community and actually stabilize their situations by means of programs I have created.

Other issues:

One of the most interesting dimensions of Hamden is its diversity. Unfortunately, there are huge discrepancies within our town that need our constant attention. Educational needs, and food insecurity and housing are among the top priorities.

What else would you like voters to know about you?

I will always be available to listen to and work on the concerns of the people in our community.
