Hamden Doctor Fined For Operating On Wrong Hip: Report
The doctor was fined by the Connecticut Medical Examining Board, according to a report.
HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden orthopedist was fined $25,000 by the Connecticut Medical Examining Board for operating on a patient’s wrong hip, according to the New Haven Register.
The Register reports Derek Shia, of The Orthopaedic Group in Hamden, made an incision on a patient’s right hip in 2019 and began operating when it was realized there was no sign of a fracture and the wrong hip was cut open.
Shia, whose Connecticut license to practice medicine was reprimanded, didn’t admit to any wrongdoing, but acknowledged the allegations were a correct version of what happened, according to the Register.
