Gary Walsh shares with Patch why he should be elected to the Hamden Legislative Council.

HAMDEN, CT — The 2023 municipal election is heating up in Hamden with plenty of races on the ballot.
Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 7 and cast their ballots for mayor and town clerk, along with seats on the legislative council and board of education.

Teacher
Do you have a family? If so, please tell us about them.
My family includes Mary, my wife of 20 years; and my two school age children.
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?
I will work to make Hamden more affordable and more safe.
Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is \_\_\_, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Hamden's high mill rate. I will lower our mill rate by reducing Hamden's budget when many positions in Town Hall are eliminated; when our two satellite libraries are closed; when one elementary school is closed; when Hamden's street lights are replaced with the newest efficiency lights.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I will oppose all additional Hamden taxpayer money that would benefit my family
If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way do you believe the current officeholder has failed the community?
Mr. Weber approved a double digit pay increase in his wife's salary when his wife completed less than one year in her new position.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Lack of integrity at the Legislative Council
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I was fiscally conservative while serving on the Hamden Board of Education
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Kiss and hug your spouse and your children before you leave your home in the morning and before you go to bed in the evening.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I will fight with everything I have to lower Hamden's mill rate to make our town more affordable.
