Details of good work

  • “Scott is a longtime resident who is a Navy veteran of the Viet Nam conflict. I got to know Scott from working with him on the Hamden Clean and Green commission. He’s a bright guy and someone who makes things happen. We did sanctioned Clean and Green cleanups and Scott would also do cleanups in his neighborhood and in areas that were in dire need of cleaning but were in a “no man’s land” scenario. Scott shows up in his pick up truck with rakes, shovels, brooms, and a weed whacker and leaves the scene looking better than ever. He does this without any fanfare and doesn’t look for any “atta boys” from the powers that be. Scott left the Clean and Green committee to volunteer on the Veterans committee. He recently weed whacked an area on Dixwell Ave. near the old Town Hall that was an eyesore. He did this in the early morning hours when it was still dark out using his own time and tools.”

Why do you feel is this person an Everyday Hero?

  • “He’s active in his church and works full-time, yet still uses his spare time to do volunteer work. Every year Scott volunteers at the Hazardous Waste site the Regional Water company’s site. He’s always enthusiastic and helpful. He likes people and doesn’t take himself too seriously and makes everything look easy. He’s been an inspiration to me and he is one of those Everyday Heroes that make Hamden a nice town to live in.”
