Four Rescued After Trench Collapse Near Hamden Border
Three workers were trapped after a trench collapse on Wintergreen Avenue.

Hamden firefighters assisted New Haven firefighters with a rescue after a trench collapsed at Southern Connecticut State University on Wintergreen Avenue near the New Haven/Hamden border Tuesday morning.
The reported collapse happened after 9 a.m. and four people were trapped in a trench, according to New Haven Register reporter Wes Duplantier.
The workers were up to their waists in sand, according to the New Haven Fire Department Twitter account. New Haven requested that Hamden bring their trench trailer to the scene.

Two workers were able to get themselves out of the trench. Firefighters rescued two other workers. Three of the workers went to the hospital and one refused treatment, according to the Register.
New Haven Fire requested that OSHA come to the scene.
