Hamden to Hold Opiate Awareness Forum

The forum is slated for October 6 at the Hamden Middle School Auditorium.

The Town of Hamden is pleased to announce that Hamden will hold an “Opiate Forum” on October 6th, from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at the Hamden Middle School Auditorium, located at 2623 Dixwell Ave, Hamden, CT 06518. Parking will be available alongside the Middle School and attendees should enter through the front lobby area.

The focus of the event will be on educating parents, guardians, community leaders, and children about the signs of opiate abuse and the devastating effects of drug addiction. There will also be discussion on support and treatment opportunities for those currently suffering from drug addiction, have family or friends who are currently suffering from drug addiction, or have lost a friend or family member to opiate addiction.

The forum will include speakers from throughout Connecticut who specialize in the areas of opiate addiction and drug addiction identification and treatment. Speakers will include multiple distinguished guests, including Dr. Fuehrlein, M.D. Ph.D., graduate of the University of Florida, Addiction Psychiatry Fellow at Yale University, and current director of the psychiatric emergency room at the West Haven VA Hospital. Also scheduled to speak is Dr. Teo-Carlo Straun, an experienced Board Certified Psychiatrist and graduate of Yale School of Medicine specializing in addiction psychiatry.

Additionally, attendees will hear from local law enforcement officers who have experience with those suffering from drug addiction and who hold special knowledge about the opiate trade occurring here in Connecticut. At the conclusion of the event’s guest speakers and visual presentations, a panel of addiction specialists and local law enforcement officials will open the floor to the audience for a special Question & Answer session.

The Middle School doors will open at exactly 6:00pm and attendees are encouraged to arrive before the 6:30pm event start time to gather information and take their seats. A selection of various addiction treatment and support resources will be available in the front lobby, along with a limited selection of refreshments.
