The Hamden Hurricanes are closing out the 2018 season with a Division 3 National championship. It was a tremendous experience for the Hamden Hurricanes. As 2019 kicks off and we prepare for the season we were face with some of the realities that plagued us last year. The field that we practiced and played games was Hamden Middle School. The football field was often determined by visiting towns to be unfit for tackle football. The lack of turf and presence of exposed rocks were too significant to ignore. Visiting towns would refuse to play until the field was raked or soil was placed over the exposed rocks. Additionally, the Hurricanes had lost thousands of dollars worth of equipment due to the flooding of our storage shed which sit in low lying areas of the field. This spring while we were playing our NFL Flag Football season we knew something needed to be done.
Parents and volunteers began a campaign to reach out to the town officials for solutions and while Eli Whitney Field and Hamden High School were alternatives it simply never materialized.
Fortunately, The Hamden Hurricanes will have a new home for the 2019 Season. Hamden Hall Country Day School stepped up in a big way. Through negotiations with Head Football Coach Joe Linta and Athletic Director Joe Fontana we were able to find a solution which would allow the Hurricanes to host its home games and playoffs in an amazing environment.
