Hamden Implements Changes To Transfer Station Hours

Officials say the new hours are being implemented for cost savings for the town.

HAMDEN, CT — The town recently implemented new hours for the Hamden Transfer Station for cost savings. As of Jan. 2, the transfer station is closed weekdays during the hour of 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Officials say the hour of closure is expected to save the town approximately $12,000 in salary and operating expenses annually.

The transfer station will remain open weekdays during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., and the first and third Saturdays of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

“We need to look at every opportunity for cost-savings for our Town, while also preserving the services we provide at the Hamden Transfer Station,” Hamden Mayor Curt Balzano Leng said in a news release. “This may seem like a small reduction of expenses, but a series of small reductions (that we’re working on daily) add up into substantial savings for the year.”
