Hamden Legislator Honored By CT League Of Conservation Voters

HAMDEN, CT - From the Connecticut House Democrats: Commending his advocacy for protecting the state’s trees, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters named state Rep. Mike D’Agostino to its 2017 Legislative Champions Hall of Fame.

Since being elected to the legislature in 2012, D’Agostino has championed laws each year to protect the state’s trees from unnecessary pruning and removal by utility companies.

Under original legislation he wrote in 2013, D’Agostino created a process for residents to object to
unnecessary tree trimming and to preserve their neighborhood aesthetics, landscape and environmental
quality.

This year, D’Agostino worked to strengthen this law by requiring utility companies to provide residents with notice of when tree trimming is slated to occur. House Bill 6356, which was signed into law by the governor July 6, also calls for utility companies to clean up the debris after tree pruning and removal.

“It is an honor to have been recognized by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters. Since being elected to office, I have worked tirelessly to protect Connecticut’s tree canopy. This year, we took steps to further protect our trees from unnecessary pruning and removal. I hope to further these efforts next year by passing laws that allow for more oversight of the tree removal work on Connecticut’s highways, and by giving residents more of say in the removal and replanting of trees at the local level,” said D’Agostino, D-Hamden.
